I spoke with Any Horowitz about his run for Mayor as the Blog Party candidate. One of the issues he is pressing is “affordable housing”. Upon further discussion, I found that he meant specifically middle-class housing. This is an important distinction, as middle class housing is almost never the priority of politicians who express the need for greater “affordable housing”. Rather, it is pushed off in favor of the “most needy” - that is to say, those in search of the greatest entitlement. This saps the city coffers, as they are additionally supported in numerous ways beyond merely their housing, but in terms of their other benefits, and frequently their childrens’ benefits as well.

If Andy wants to press for middle-class housing, that indeed would make him unique, and is something that could and should gain the interest of the hipsters as well.

Let’s hope Andy champions this issue!
