JVoices posted an excerpt from Melanie Kaye/Kantrowitz’s new book, “The Colors of Jews.” Ms. Kaye/Kantrowitz does actually raise some interesting questions in this piece. But DK/Kvetcher is not interested in seriously addressing those questions in this post, because Kaye/Kantrowitz isn’t either. Not if this excerpt is any indication.

And the other Jews, the ones who don’t look white, those who by anyone’s definition are not white: Jewish African Americans, Jews from the Middle East, Latin America, Ethiopia, the Caribbean, India, China. Jews of any race who chose Judaism.
Anyone who chooses Judaism is what we in the traditional Jewish world call a convert. They are welcome, but individuals do not nullify established communities.
Biracial and multiracial Jews. Children of mixed marriages.
This is not just about being a Jew. This is also about a hyphenated identity.
Children of color adopted by Ashkenazim.
Whatever that is, it isn’t really their choice, is it?
Invisible, marginalized, not even imagined.
How are they marginalized? Because we don’t pretend most Jewish kids are from Korea or Ecuador? And imagined? What are we supposed to do all day, imagine all the different types of peoples who could be Jews and maybe are somewhere? Who cares?
The world is falling apart around us. We should be mobilizing to save the environment. It’s probably too late. We are probably fucked. All of us. White. Black. Not White by Choice. White here but not in Poland. But instead of activism that could save the planet, the far-Left wants us to whine…MORE…about a white racism they haven’t bitched about enough. As if!

As much as I often disagree with your views about the far-left, this time I think that you’re right.
The idea of a general “whiteness” is fairly new, and Jews aren’t the only “white ethnics” (Italians, Greeks, Irish, and Russians were often included in that description).
If she wanted to talk about race and Judaism in a constructive way, maybe she should have discussed the widespread treatment of Sphardim by Ashkenazim in the beginning to middle of this century. Or how in this country black men who murder white people are much more likely to end up on death row. Racism clearly exists in this country, and it does affect Jews. Jews of color feel like they have to justify themselves to the broader community, work harder to fit in, and do find themselves marginalized.
But ‘invisible?’ Or ‘not even imagined?’ That is just stupid. I don’t know any Jew who has never met a non-white Jew. Maybe we, as Jews haven’t done a great job of publicising the fact that there are non-white Jews, but I think that that was, in part, because we were so focused on being considered “white.”

The far-Left is the moderate Left’s worst enemy. Do you know why I voted for Gore instead of Bush? Because I knew there was a difference. All that nonsense about how both candidates were “the same.” Nader and the far-Left helped actively bring us Bush, and supposedly, they were funded by the Republicans to do just that. And that’s just one example of how the far-Left screws us over. They screw us over and over, and for nothing. So they can feel they and they alone are fighting “the man.”
These people are often thoughtless and even narcissist. And they steal the Moderate Left’s history and pretend it is theirs, because whenever they have been in charge, reeducation camps and mass murder is to be found. So they steal American Labor history. They weren’t even here yet. They were busy creating a Worker’s Paradise for Lenin. Far-Left Jews don’t last four generations in the U.S.A.
They pretend they want to “explore” race, but they play the same dirty game, I have seen it over and over. The minute you question any axioms or white peoples’ culpability, they will try to shut you up by turning the conversation to whether or not you personally are a racist, and force you to accept their silly ideas or face name-calling. Many Moderate Left people are terrified of being called names, and so they just stay quiet and docile in these “conversations.”

There is a big assumption being made here that “Jews from the Middle East” (I presume she means Mizrahim) are phenotypically “non-white”. This is not the case. Loads of people from the Middle East–Jews, Christians and Muslims–look “white”.

Good post, Kelsey. You are wrong, however, the Far Left is useful to lots of organizations and groups. Think, for example, about how the ISM benefits from the Far Left’s stupidity.
Man, I hadn’t thought about the Turner Diaries in forever! People still read that? I mean, it’s like the movie The Sum of All Fears except that racists are the good guys. If you want amusing racist literature, the Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu is a much more entertaining read.
