Finally, the Gedoylim cum through
Oh, this says it all. Remember our man Rabbi Lipa Margulies? The enabler of Kolko, the big Brookyln child molester of both Italian and Chassidic kids? Well, he may not be willing to protect children from lap dances and what we in the secular world would call underage homosexual assault…but darn it, when it comes to a concert deemed demeaning to the Great Ones…he’s there in full throttle to demand a boycott of a concert benefiting orphans.
Failed Messiah has the story. Read it and hurl.

you buy into this benefiting orphans shit?
all proceeds to charity is the catch all excuse that people like these put on the bottom of whatever they think the rabbis will disapprove of.

18: Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
whatever you think of margolis, there are another 20 rabbis signed on.
So what’s their issue, exactly?
DK, their issue exactly is that it’s ok to do stuff as long as nobody sees it, methinkth.
it was kind of hard to read the sign in his post.
but the rabbis are against the rock crap that maquerades as “jewish” music, they’re against the singers of low moral standards being held up as role models, http://www.theawarenesscenter......eedle.html
they’re against concerts with “family seating” like this one, and in general they don’t think concerts are an appropriate form of entertainment.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/new.....world.html if you want to listen to music buy the cd.
and another link

Suppose they’d also have objected to King David’s singing, considering his inclination to promiscuity.
and your point is?
Their point is?
concerts are not compatible with orthodoxy the way they’d like it to be.
And what’s the way they’d like it to be? Apparently not the Judaism King David adhered to…
There is no such thing as Jewish music. This is a haredi fantasy. There is no such thing.
DK, you spoilsport. Jewish music is what’s being listened to while eating Jewish food.
And maybe, just maybe those rabbis should read Die faierdike liebe, an anthology of lyrics of sultry Yiddish songs as were not uncommon in many shtetls before Orthodoxy discovered Puritanism.
Sarah
I won’t waste my time arguing biblical interpretation.
I’m sure you know the talmud has a different interpretation of that verse, and that’s the way they’d like it to be.
Is the book online? Can you post a link?
In any case, there were many non religious yiddish speakers before the war, what’s the connection between irreligious yiddish verse and orthodoxical puritanism?
Take it from a former Christian. You DON’T want Puritanism in the same sentence as any form of Judaism, ever. Nevertheless, Sarah is right.
What comes with Puritanism is mindless rote adherence to the word of MAN, and NOT G-d, and NO interpretation, and NO difference of opinion. With it comes burning witches and other murderous scapegoating. Oh wait, it also involved burning Jews for having caused the plague. DO YOU REALLY WANT THE FAITH TO MOVE IN THE DIRECTION OF THAT?
For crying out loud, how long till they get their panties in enough of a twist to take those mitzvah covering idolatry too darn seriously and go burn down buildings with tenants they don’t like? They should NOT be encouraged to this kind of idiotic thinking with chumras so tight it cuts off oxygen to the brain.
No, this is an extreme end to “punch card religious thinking” where there’s a simple answer for everything and G-d says it is so, so don’t question the one giving you that answer. Go watch Kingdom of Heaven and watch the behavior of the Crusaders and listen to their idiot shouts of “G-d wills it!”. That’s the end result of unopposed flashcard religion.
DK
there is no such thing as jewish music.
can you tell the difference between either of these

mohammed, strangely Dschinghis Khan sounds like really bad frum wedding music.
Dschingis Khan IS really bad frum wedding music.:-)
If you would have bothered reading the links I put up, you would have seen that Mordechai ben David plagiarized it. The so called “jewish” version is called yidden. Blogindm once sent me an email with 4 or 5 straight knockoffs that he remembered offhand, and there are many more, not counting the ones where they changed a note or 2 first.
Did you listen to the other 2 songs I uploaded?
“The so called “jewishâ€? version is called yidden. ”
I know — I was kidding!
I didn’t get the first two songs — the link you put just brought up a bunch of hot young chicks looking for sex.
are you computer illiterate?

Mohammed, the full text isn’t online, but you can order the book through abebooks: http://www.abebooks.com/servle.....9&y=17 .
And in terms of legal validity in religion, the source goes before the interpretation, meaning if the talmudic interpretation clearly clashes with the biblical message, it’s the bible that holds valid.
Sarah
thanks anyway, but I can’t afford the 30 bucks. If there’s a partial text online, post that and it will have to be enough.
“And in terms of legal validity in religion” Stop right there. Orthodoxy accepts the talmud as definative. Even accepting for the sake of the argument that they clearly clash (which they don’t) your qualifications for validity are not orthodoxys. feel free to start your own religion, in this discussion it’s irrelevant.
Why do others members of the Orthodoxy I know then do see the clash? Orthodoxy has been around for less than 300 years. Maybe Orthodoxy should consider that before trying to define true Jewishness.
As for the texts, I suppose I’ll have to google the individual lyrics to see if I get any hits.
Sarah
“Why do others members of the Orthodoxy I know then do see the clash?”
You’re asking me why other people you know and I don’t hold a position I disagree with?
Orthodoxy claims to be a direct continuation of Judaism as received on Sinai.
Getting into a historical argument about the objective validity of this claim would be pointless. As long as it’s accepted as a basic tenet of the faith it’s subjectively true.
Do you have any arguments to make on that basis?
And do you think this is more of a clash than “an eye for an eye”?
If you have the patience to google the lyrics, or to scan some poems and email them to me, I would appreciate it.
Orthodoxy is pretty recent.
Know what? I got the book from an overstock seller here for really cheap. I’ll see if I can get one more copy, so you may get it next time I’m over there.
If you feel like doing that, that would be very nice. how often do you cross the pond?
Depends; sometimes I go there every couple of weeks.
Ordered the book; my next trip is postponed to the summer though, so you’ll need to be patient.
While Orthoxy may claim to be a direct continuation of Judaism as received on Sinai, I suspect that might be based on an error that popped up a few hundred years ago and was never corrected. What they really meant to say was that Orthodoxy is a direct continuation of Judaism as received on Śnieżka, a mountain in Poland.
how witty of you c-girl. just a little more witty and you’ll be a half wit.
I actually think C-girl is pretty funny, mohammed. So be nice!
You’re entitled to your opinion, DK, however wrong it is. But when have you ever known me to be nice?
All Satmar are nice. They just don’t show it.
Mohammed,
Who says you can’t teach an ol’ haredi new tricks?
Ah, how sweet it is to see that I can still rile up mohammed. Life is indeed good.
Don’t bother being nice on my account, mohammed. It would ruin my day.
Hmm.. Should I tell her I’m not riled up or leave her to her delusions?
