For the sake of making mamzers…
There are many silly allegorical stories in the Talmud about VERY BIG rabbis who could raise the dead.
Fortunately, when it comes to casting aspersions on a fellow Jew’s status, they still can!

Oh, come on DK.
All it means is that one zionist rabbi recognized that other of the zionist establishments bought and paid for rabbis aren’t worth a $1.99. That’s not even an open secret. It’s something anyone who lives there knows very well.
mohammed, the rabbi who gave this unfortunate psak was a haredi, not a Zionist.
I’m pretty sure this Levin is dati leumi, whether the JP seems to imply he’s chareidi or not.
The article failedmessiah links to says he was part of the rabbinate himself

It looks like just another internal fight between a bunch of corrupt imcompetent politicians that call themselves rabbis with one side calling the other chareidi as an insult.
I agree with the points brought to light by D.K. Sincerity should not be necessary at any time durring Jewish conversions. If in order to be a convert you must have at some point desired to keep Shabbat and wear teffilin, then we are returning to the Dark Days of King Soloman. We must not return to that time of faith and belief in Heaven and God. It is much better to believe that our lives have no purpose, and that we are a form of Bacteria. And that if Oranges are pleasant to look at it is but the work of chance and coincidense. The pleasant color of the banana must be understood for what it is: Only seemingly pleasant to our evolved eyes and brains. In truth the difference between a German and a Jew is Rabbi Druckman’s rubber stamp. With Big Bang’s help may disregard for God, Shabbat and Teffilin come to pass among all Modern Orthodox , speedily in our days. Say Amen.

This is actually an important point, despite Abe’s sarcasm, for the haredim believe there is an almost species-like difference between Jew and gentile, while the rest of us basically believe the difference to be one of faith alone, although we share genetic code like any people.
Abe, I admit that I reject your underlying assumption that a Jew is somehow physiologically or metaphysically greater than a “goy,” and I believe that is a crucial difference in understanding conversion between haredim and others.
Dearest D.K. apple of my eye,
The German’s made naked mother’s walk in the freezing winter holding their infants for blocks and blocks until they arrived at the gas chamber and where killed. It was then that the differences between a Jew and a Non-Jew were finally revealed. If a Non-Jew wants to become Jewish he must be sincere, that is what God in his wisdom that we cannot fanthom has decided. God’s ways are not always clear to us. But possibly, after the Jewish father’s had their many daughters taken from them at Aushwitz and driven over to the Nazi soldier’s whore house we can at least understand that our faith is not just a idea but a molding religon that makes us into a pure and SUPERIOR people that no one can be compared to. One nation in the land.
Abe,
To classify gentiles as all latent Nazis is obscene. Absolutely obscene.
I agree, Abe was standing too close to the smoke from the same tainted bonfire that DovBear and Bray were at earlier.
What makes a Jew a Jew is not blood or genetics. The world is full of practicing Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims who descend from Jews who converted either voluntarily or forcibly generations ago. If there were intrinsic specialness it would pass to all of them too and evidently, it hasn’t.
Nor is a Jew made by how tight he ties the mental belt of chumrot around his brain. Observance is often used as a yardstick without ever asking observance of WHAT. Put ten Sephardic rabbis and ten Ashkenaz rabbis in the same room to pour over a tiny singular concept and let me see you get anything other than sixty mutually contradictory psak.
Now then, the Baal Shem Tov certainly recognized this when he pointed out that G-d does so love the simple and honest who with all true faith love G-d and do their best no matter how imperfect their observance of the current forms. Sadly, the rigid letter of the law over the heart mentality of the mitnagdim has seemed to win out with crazy heartless things like this ruling.
What makes a Jew is not only in the plain meaning but the deeper meanings of G-d’s word and every rabbi should get that on the first day of rabbinical school. How it misses their heart is one of the mysteries of life unless you subscribe to the realistic if seemingly cynical view that G-d’s word is useless to the brain alone without the heart.
The word with heart alone without brain is also useless in the long run but if the heart is pure and positive rather less useless than brain without heart. Worst of all would be a brain and dark heart.
I think those believing the retrodeconversions are okay and the feelings of the people involved unimportant are clearly standing someplace where their hearts are in shadow and their hats on way too tight.
Abe impersonated other bloggers and posters on this site, as well as feigning to be an anti-Semitic gentile. Those comments weredeleted, and I will watch to see if this behavior continues.
