Gitty Speaks
Gitty is speaking on a site created to support her in her struggle. I don’t want to take sides, but I would just say that no matter which side you are on, we should all appreciate that it isn’t easy for a young woman who loves her daughter very much to stand up for her rights to a fundamentalist underworld that hates her for returning to the liberalism of her ancestors.
Welcome back to the Haskalah, Gitty. Please keep us updated. You may not be quite home yet, mammelah, but you are on your way back.
May all the children of the Haskalah (and their friends and family) who lose their way, and fall to the dark entrapments of haredism be comforted. And may they, or at least their descendants, find the strength to find their way back.
And to all the children of the Haskalah caught in the misery of haredism, whether Chassidic or B’nai Torah, I would remind you of this:
Sometimes the gates to a western civilization are open, and sometimes the gates to western civilization are closed. But the gates to personal acceptance of science, history, and an appreciation of nature and the arts are always open.

She seems pretty nice and normal compared to how she is being painted.
Amazingly, a lot of people on the net excoriating her are missing the point that if they were as frum as the Satmar they are defending, they’d not be using the Internet in the first place, would they?

You know, DK, there are networks of “safe-houses” for people fleeing from Mormon communities or Muslim communities or other cults…is there such a network where frum or formerly frum women with children can go stay with someone far away from where the “trouble” is while they sort things out and get legal advice? If there is, I’d be interested in offering support. Shalom.
The point is that the people online defending the Satmar way of life themselves are showing the have no desire to live it. They do not say the Satmar may do as they wish if they so wish, but that their way is better than Gitty’s way and evidently, they’re at least as off the derech from the Satmar POV as Gitty, so hypocritical in the first place and defending people who’d just as soon turn up their nose at them for not being so conservative in way of life as they are.
It’s like saying that Gitty should have stayed, but they themselves wouldn’t join up and live the life they think she should be.

jackass. you mean the point is you can’t tell the difference between using the internet and eating treif or being mechalel shabbes, and have absolutely no idea what satmar is, what’s their POV, or how many satmarer use the internet.
and you must think there’s nothing wrong with money laundering or mass murder because you jaywalk or drive five miles over the speed limit.
