But at least they are good to the minyans…

Even for only a “half-hearted defense of AptriProcessors,” this is absurd.

Tamar Fox writes that,

We should also not forget ways in which the Rubashkins have been generous in the past. This includes donating kosher meat to various Jewish institutions, and exporting members of their small community to even smaller communities that otherwise wouldn’t have had a minyan for the High Holidays.

With all due respect, WHO CARES?!? If they would export their minyan back to Russia (for good) then the American Jewish community should be grateful.

Rubashkin — just another post-war haredi success story.

Agreed, if I were to go and kill a person, all my good deeds of the past might add some sentimentality in court, but nonetheless I’d have to stand trial - and be judged - on having committed a capital crime. We don’t build up “accounts” of good deeds and felonies are our withdrawals, leaving a plus in the bank.

And of course what rubashkin did was a capital crime.
Hello, it’s talking about the goodwill people may or may not have for them after they gave illegal mexicans mexican working standards. And as a counterpoint, it’s perfectly relevant.

Mo, but how much goodwill there would have been had they legally hired workforce at fair wages! Ach! Joy!

I don’t know about the US, but what Rubashkin did would qualify as capital crime over here. And no, Mo, we aren’t Communist.

Mo doesn’t differentiate between social-democrat and communist, never mind between social-democrat and socialist.

Mo, let me ask you this. If you were reincarnated as a dark-skinned gentile, and were told you could work either at Hebrew National or at Rubashkins, which one would you pick?

My second X-chromosome makes anything I say irrelevant to Mo anyway.

I do agree that past good deeds should be brought to bear but ONLY insofar as a sign of whether or not they are likely to be responsive to rehabilitation, but their disavowals and excuses more than counter those things.

The Rubashkins are still not showing any penitence and no remorse and that is what is galling all and sundry.

I know I run risk of DK biting my head off for saying this (he’s actually a lady praying mantis) but haven’t we read about the Rubashkin stuff ad nauseum? I’m nearly as sick of reading about the evil Rubashkins as I am of Britney Speares’ mental status.

Fine, they did what they did. It was bad. Can we let the prosecutor worry about it, and move on to the next story now?
