Jeffery Goldberg Makes Me Look Moderate About Big Aish

October 29, 2008   Aish, NCSY

Jeffrey Goldberg actually goes too far in trashing Big Aish in The Atlantic. In, “The Jewish Extremists Behind ‘Obsession,’”Goldberg writes,

Torossian’s attitude toward Arabs and toward the peace process are echoed in the approach of Aish HaTorah, which is just about the most fundamentalist movement in Judaism today. Its operatives flourish in the radical belt of Jewish settlements just south of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, and their outposts across the world propagandize on behalf of a particularly sterile, sexist and revanchist brand of Judaism. Which is amusing, of course, because “Obsession” is meant to expose a particularly sterile, sexist and racist brand of Islam.

Actually, Big Aish isn’t really that directly involved with the Settler movement, but maybe that isn’t what Goldberg is claiming. Anyway, it sure is swell to hear more and more people use the F word against Big Aish. Saying it like it is.

Does Jeffrey Goldberg know that Rabbi Felsenthal, NCSY’s Director of Alumni, and who is a Big Aish “operative” — is working our public schools through NCSY JSUs and sending “alumni” to yeshivas and seminaries just like and including Aish HaTorah? I sure wish someone would tell him what is going on…I bet he would find it pretty interesting. I would love to hear Jeffrey Goldberg’s opinion of NCSY’s invasion of our public school system with their cultural clubs even as they hold hands with what Goldberg would surely consider to be fundamentalist institutions.

Gawker doesn’t like Big Aish either.

Too far? Nowhere near far enough.
Sanctimonious missionary proselytizing by hypocritical assholes is annoying at best, but I suppose every religion has them. But when did they decide to give up on religion to propagandize full time for the “israeli” foreign ministry and interfere in another countrys internal affairs?

“Obsession,” said Rabbi Jack Moline of Agudas Achim Congregation, a Conservative synagogue in Alexandria, Va., is “the protocols of the learned elders of Saudi Arabia.
