Eric nabbed ya good, DK, because as you WELL know, Neturei Karta is no more representative of haredim on the question of this bread-breaking than “Rabbi” Lynn Gottlieb is of left-wing Jews… and probably considerably less so.

Eric, her decision was hardly an example of the mainstream liberal Jewish community,there were not “lots” of Jews who met with Ahmadinejad, and the reasons offered were anyway a very different reason than NK. Gottleib explained,

“I wanted to isolate him but not insult him. It’s tricky. It’s a fine line … because I wanted to keep the channels open.”

That is quite different meeting with this guy to offer support for the destruction of the Jewish state.

However, though I personally am not against negotiations, I do not think this is something that rabbis or Jewish leftists should be acting unilaterally. This is a decision that the American administration should be making. Not Jewish clergy.

This woman is indeed an irresponsible person.

Actually lots of Jewish leftists (including rabbis) support breaking bread with Ahmadinejad and some have already undertaken "peace" missions there. Leftists and Jewish leftists were also pleased with the prevention of a bipartisan showing at the anti-nuclear-Iran rally at the UN in September. Noting the connection between them and Neturei Karta is not far off at all. The underlying belief structures are fairly similar.

Just scanned through the comments on the Forward’s site, and I must say I’m appalled by the lack of knowledge of the development and theology of American Evangelicalism that many commenters display. Also, likening the comic to “The Protocols the Learnt Elders of Zion” hardly bespeaks any profound insight into the editorial and effective history of “The Protocols”, let alone into the different literary categories.

Whether EV’s [satirical] comic was right-on-point or over-the-top is subjective, but to base one’s views foremostly on assumption and a p-c self-concept rather than easily available encyclopaedical facts is anything but objective either.
