NCSY Continues to Lionize Lanner’s Enabler

Rabbi Pinchas Stolper — the haredi-leaning founder of NCSY, was a consistent defender of Baruch Lanner. In fact, he was the one who hired the bastard in the first place, and was his superior for many years.
After Lanner was busted by the Jewish Week, Rabbi Stolper was there to explain that these allegations of decades of kneeing boys and touching girls improperly had to be placed in context of an otherwise wonderful career as a kiruv professional. After all, Lanner “had such a magnificent impact” on young people. You know, he made them frum! And most importantly, touching girls and kicking boys wasn’t a sexual problem or anything as sordid as that. Oh, no, no, no. Rather,
“despite some obvious sickness that is not sexual but has to do with needing to be in control.”
Oh, so that’s why you let it go on…for decades.
So NCSY, who has had a very hard time of letting Lanner enablers go too far from home, wants you to emulate Rabbi Stolper.
Maybe if you work really hard to “inspire the Jewish future,” you will one day be awarded NCSY’s coveted Rebbetzin Elaine and Rabbi Pinchas Stolper Service Award.
This is the letter I sent to Rabbi Burg and NCSY:
Dear Rabbi Burg,
I find it peculiar that NCSY offers a Pinchas Stolper Service Award. As I am sure you are aware, Rabbi Stolper was not only an enabler of Baruch Lanner for many, many, many, years, but was an outspoken defender of Lanner after the liberal Jewish media finally moved in and stopped the abuse. Because of [the Richard Joel Commission], R. Stolper’s reaction, downplaying the significance of Lanner’s abuse, and talking openly about Lanner’s psychological problems of “power” and “control”, we
are quite suspiciousknow that he knew what was going on for a very long time.Stolper was also consistently strident that Lanner’s behavior was not a major problem. I realize he is a hero to many Orthodox Jews for founding NCSY and making non-Orthodox Jews Orthodox, but he shouldn’t have allowed Lanner to do what he did, and he should not have defended his protege when he got busted, and he should have done a public teshuvah early on, and we should have never heard from him again in NCSY in any way, shape or form.
But he did none of those things.
And you offer a prominent service award named after him.
NCSY can’t just whitewash egregious features of a man’s resume because he did other things that you believe in.
This isn’t wikipedia.

So do you want a controversies entry perhaps? I don’t see why that doesn’t belong, as they have such sections in many Wikipedia entries. Or is it that someone is camping on that entry and undoing every edit?
I found it better to not bother with editing Wikipedia. Too many anal self-centered control freaks camp out there and have made themselves self-appointed controllers of any and all info on various subjects at Wikipedia, essentially acting as the censors that Wikipedia is supposed to eliminate. Instead of censors who want a specific image of an encyclopedia which is what the editorial staff of Encyclopaedia Brittanica do, we get Internet nerd censors who get to engage in the control games they’d not be brave enough to try in the real world away from the Internet.
Just keep up your posting at your blog, you have readers. If Wiki was that important, I expect Shmarya would not post so much, but me more engaged in fighting idiots at Wikipedia.
Nothing has changed in NCSY. Someone should check into NY Region’s Nachum Zak. He is going after the teenage girls in the region from broken but frum homes and convincing them to move into his basement as free “help”. He himself was thrown out of Ramaz years ago for “quesionable behavior” and is now calling himself “rabbi” even though he has had no rabbinic education.
