Simple to remember — better out than haredi, Part 3,112
December 22, 2008 Haredim, Israel, Modern Orthodox
The chasing of Modern Orthodox Jews and the beating of a Modern Orthodox maiden has made YNET.
My daughter was completely hysterical,” said the girl’s father. “She came home all beaten up and filthy.” He added that he was shocked to discover that the attack was not perpetuated by “bored deprived youth but by adults over 40.
“They kept shouting that girls and boys walking together is promiscuity that spoils their children, but the girls were no way near any boys and the three of them were modestly dressed,” he claimed.
But to be fair, the haredim have an explanation.
Meanwhile the members of the Haredi Community stream in Beit Shemesh present a different version for the state of affairs in town. Moshe, a haredi resident, said that young religious boys and girls often pass through the haredi neighborhood together, and that on occasion yeshiva students have to “drive them away by force.”
“Boys and girls laughing together is forbidden. This shouldn’t happen in a secular neighborhood, let alone an ultra-Orthodox one,” Moshe stated.
Just shut your penguin mouth, Moshe.

Meanwhile, negotiations have also been ongoing between members of both publics in an effort to reach an understanding that would enable coexistence in the mixed town.
Yeah, that’ll happen.
When various groups advocate boycotts of Israel over the Palestinian situation, I have mixed feelings. I have no mixed feelings about this; the strongest pressure should be placed on the Israeli authorities to react to these incidents with the harshest measures. I’d actually be in favor of a letter-writing campaign addressed to one’s members of Congress, insisting that they stop foreign aid to Israel until these violent outbursts are contained.
Now, how long will it take for our resident Hareidi apologist to show up to tell us that he doesn’t believe it, because Hareidm don’t behave that way, and why aren’t we as hard on the Arabs, who are the real savages?
The problem with bringing this to the attention of the general public is that they don’t understand the nuances of Ultra-Orthodox, Orthodox, Traditional, Secular, Ect. Neither do they care, nor should they. We are all Yids to them, Maybe they can discern Reform form orthodox, but that’s about it. If we make a big public stink, they’ll think the Jews in general are violent, and sympathies will turn towards the Arabs. This is a Jewish problem. Only the Jews understand it — only Jews can solve it.
Meanwhile, I say “No visiting or babysitting for the Ramat Bet Shemesh relatives until you get licensed to carry a gun”. I have no intention of exposing my decently-raised offspring to the soul-destroying behavior of RBS residents.
Now that’s a win-win solution.
Well – should we write to the Jewish agencies that support Israel?
If you think gentiles can’t understand it, well, you’re wrong. Refer them to the stodgy stuffed shirts in Footloose. “You know how John Lithgow wouldn’t know fun if his wife lap danced for him? Well, imagine that with a beard and a rock in one hand and not a single Kevin Bacon for ten thousand miles. If you’re still having trouble, refer to Cotton Mather and the witch hunting trials. Yeah, that kind of stick up the- Yeah. EXACTLY.”
That’s how the conversation would essentially go.
This would pretty quickly come to a screeching halt if it was a couple of off duty female soldiers visiting family. Oh man, what a mistake attacking an IDF woman would be.
