Three More Synagogues Hit in Chicago

January 12, 2009   Immigration, Jewish Community

The JTA reports,

At least three Chicago-area synagogues were vandalized following rallies in support of and against Israel.

The synagogues were defaced early Saturday morning by two vandals who smashed windows and doors with rocks and bricks and sprayed pro-Palestinian graffiti on the buildings. The men were captured on a video surveillance camera at one synagogue and were seen by a caretaker fleeing the scene at a second synagogue.

Some of the graffiti read “Death to Israel and “Free Palestine,” according to local reports.
[...]
The Chicago Tribune has reported that a fourth synagogue, in the suburb of Lincolnwood, was also vandalized.

The vandalism incidents, and an attempt late Friday afternoon by four unknown men in Chicago to enter a Jewish federation building, followed a Jewish communal rally Friday in support of Israel and a pro-Palestinian rally later in the day.

And remember, anyone who dares suggest that this has anything to do with Chicago being the center of this country’s Palestinian and Jordanian diasporas or suggests that we should rethink accepting mass immigration from these countries is a disgusting, alarmist racist!

Free Palestine? One with every order of chili fries?

Nah, I’m watching my health.

You pay to play.
And anyone who suggests it has anything to do with Chicago Jews loudly supporting the zionist atrocities in Gaza is antisemetic, right?

mohammed, this isn’t Ramat Beit Shemesh. This is a western country. Doesn’t work like that here.

Yes, anyone suggesting that smashing windows and painting “Death to Israel” on random synagogues is justified by Chicago Jews’ support for Israel is antisemitic.

Wow. I keep thinking of Kristalnacht. Where’s my passport?

Al Quaeda did 9/11 Muslims in other countries celebrated and American Mosques were trashed.
Israel slaughters women and children, Chicago Jews loudly support them and Chicago synagogues were trashed. I’m not saying it’s right or legal but it’s certainly a logical progression and it DOES happen here.

Really, could I have a list of the mosques which were trashed? I seem to recall some Sikhs being attacked by a white trash hick, but not much else.

“Islamophobia” is generally a boogyman used to silence valid criticism of Islam. There are far more hate crimes in the United States against Jews than against Muslims.

Muhammed – you wrote:

In America we have a right to support whatever we want – Communism, Democracy, Zionism, Satanism – not that any of these are related, but still. Check – Constitution – Amendement one.

Now, blood thirsty Muslims can also support chanting “death to Israel, Death to America” until they are blue in the face. See the same amendment.

However, when you damage someone’s property – that is when the law has been violated and we need to get police involved.

Your assertion that Jews brought this on themselves is ignorant and hateful.

No one can break the law. That’s the law. Live with it or pay the consequences. Dovid, I’m shocked you allow this loser to comment on your site. His hate is obvious and his intelligence level leaves much to be desired. This is generally a great blog – you don’t need hatemongers dragging it down.

Just my two cents. May G-d Almighty bless and protect his people, Israel.

Ronen, mohammed adds an important haredi perspective. His intelligence is quite high. Want to challenge him in chess?

It’s just that his perspectives are indefensible. So logic and reason only goes so far.

As offensive as mohammed’s comment is, I welcome seeing it here or at any other good blog. I only read good blogs, so if I can’t read the creepy antisemitic comments here as well, how will I know what people like mohammed think? Free speech gives us a warning. (Think second amendment, people. I do.)

Ronen
I’m all for law and order and mother and apple pie. I support the FIrst Amendment. (the second amendment is the right to bear firearms, latte) But this is the equilavent of a KKK rally in Harlem or Bed Stuy. Legal, but stupid and hateful. Focusing on the act while ignoring the provokation, or blaming immigration for what seems to be a not untypical American reaction to similar situations is stupid.

The Klan has every right to assemble as long as they register with the county. But no one has a right to destroy someone else’s property.

I’m sure you know but Benjamin Franklin objected to the wording “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…” He stated, and correctly so, that this was too vague and wanted it replaced with “life liberty and the pursuit of property”.

What is else is government for if not to ensure we can manage and protect our property? This is always a great source of strife. Once a group destroys property – I don’t care who they are – we are to abandon them and call them criminals.

Not to mention this is a hate crime.

It’s people like you, Muhammed, that breed people like Baruch Goldshtein.

If you and your friends would simply lay off the pro violent slant, you’ll find the image of Islam will one day become unassociated with violence and death.

G-d is clear – Thou shall not murder.

May G-d Almighty bless you to truly fear Him alone and His people – his nation of priests, Israel. As it says, Smos, 4:22 – My son, my first born, Israel.

“Wow. I keep thinking of Kristalnacht. Where’s my passport?”

This is not Kristalnacht. Please don’t succumb to hyperbole; it cheapens DK’s point. It’s Islamists who are responsible for these kinds of actions. Don’t swoop American society at large in — or we’ll find it difficult to convince them of why Muslim mass immigration= stupid.

Ronen, while I disagree with Mo on many issues (except the paper bag one), his perspective is that of the group that most diligently pursues core concepts of Jewish eschatology. Still, I often find his conclusions to be extreme, but he knows that.

Islamists and their useful idiot and fellow traveling radical leftists have been doing this sort of thing for a long time. Back when I actually gave a crap, I would ask my radical lefty friends:

“if these people are “anti-Zionists” as opposed to anti-Semites, why are they vandalizing synagogues–a symbol of the Jewish faith–instead of the Israeli consulate or embassy (a symbol of the Zionist state).”

I never received a good answer.

halfsours,

I figured someone would comment on that, and that it would be pretty much what you wrote. Relax, I am not trying to cheapen anything. However, as a daughter of a holocaust survivor, the Holocaust survivor instinct emerges to the surface when hearing of defamation of numerous shuls in my country. That’s just how it is. You are free to disagree.

17 HalfSours { 01.13.09 at 11:40 pm }

If you anticipated my comment, you could have saved us both some time. My grandfather was a Holocaust survivor. I jump out of my skin over the same things sometimes. But mostly I keep it quiet because there is a danger in being perceived as hysterical.

18 latte island { 01.14.09 at 1:49 am }

Mo, thanks for your help, but I meant the second amendment. Maybe you didn’t understand my point.

19 mohammed { 01.14.09 at 9:15 am }

Why synoagogues? Try this for a reason
All civilians living in Gaza are collectively guilty for Kassam attacks on Sderot, former Sephardi chief rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu has written in a letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

you have that right to keep your hysteria quiet. I chose to voice a personal concern here. I do not say it in a hysterical manner. No time has been wasted.
