Way sooner than I expected. Don’t expect all the hippies to rush to retract, however.
The WSJ writes,
Federal counterterrorism officials investigating the recruitment of ethnic Somalis in the U.S. for jihad in Somalia say the case echoes the type of homegrown radicalization that threatens parts of Europe.

Patrick Rowan, who was chief of the Justice Department’s national-security division when the Somali probe began, said: “If there was ever a subconscious belief in the counterterrorism community that our society is different from Europe and therefore we don’t have to worry about problems like they’ve had, the activities in Minneapolis demonstrate we can’t think that way.”

I think Americans should be cowering in fear from all the Kahanists who are radicalizing those swarthy Hebrew-Americans! For every Baruch Goldstein, how many others lurk in madrasah-esque yeshives, waiting to be organized into splinter cells of West Bank settlers? Shouldn’t we really be blaming and fearing all those of any Judaic beliefs lest they turn out to be terrorists? Or should we make it an ethnic thing like we do with Arabs of any religion?

And let’s not forget that Hanukkah will soon be upon us! Have you seen how even secular Jews in America get agitated by Maccabean furor this time of the year? DJ, as you can see with the Abitbol reaction, the hippy comment was a dig at The Zionists who should know better than to advocate mass Muslim immigration.
As for the Kahanist issue, considering that a disproportionate amount of these nutbags are Americans who spaz out in Israel, I would bring your concern to the Jewish state.
Isn’t that what’s going on with these Somali kids? Americans who spaz out in Somalia? Violent extremism in one form is as good as violent extremism in another.
Just curious–what percentage of Muslims would you estimate are terrorists? What percentage of Muslims in America? In Somalia? In Israel?
DJ, most Somalis accept a most brutal form of Islam, one that demands radical FGM, radical even by African Muslim standards.
This affects other aspects of P.O.V. as well.
Somali society was moderating until the United States started financing its favorite warlord (with help from Somalia’s traditional enemy, Ethiopia) in hopes of foisting a central government on an otherwise splintered, anarchic region. The unintended consequence of this was pushing hordes of Somalis into the hands of the Islamists.
So many variables. So many things to watch out for. Mass immigration is bad enough, but mass immigration plus an interventionist foreign policy which riles a diaspora is worse.
